Building 6237

This project consisted of a complete historical renovation of a Building 6237 which was formerly a World War II-era hospital. The newly refurbished building now serves as the home of the Fort Carson Family Readiness Center, with facilities to support the family members of Fort Carson's deployed soldiers. The first floor houses a Child Development Center, a Teen Center, Offices, a Video Conferencing Center, a Cyber Café and a General Assembly Room with a Kitchenette. In addition the first floor has room for daycare services, office space, and a video teleconferencing meeting room. The second floor consists of a Gift Shop, Offices and six expandable Classrooms. The challenge was to meet current security requirements and building codes, while restoring the various historical elements. Some of the restored historical included: windows, flooring, wall coverings, lighting, and radiators as an aesthetic feature.

The scope of work included lead and asbestos abatement, selective demolition, interior finish, exterior EFIS system, plumbing, fire protection, mechanical, and electrical. The electrical work includes an 800-amp primary service with a high-voltage transformer from the existing switch.
